 Excuse me!? The Bach Complete Works (Bach-Gesamtwerk) and the Bach Complete Edition (Bach-Gesamtausgabe) are two different pairs of boots? Yes, that's precisely how it is. And exactly you can read it on a completely different website. Of course, on a website of this Bach Mission ... the Mission of the two creative namesakes of the Eisenach composer ... from Southern Germany.  But if you are only interested shortly , please continue reading on this page.

So you may come – exactly to this page – via Google ... and actually not on the keywords Bach and Kindergarten. And now you find this website kind of cool and also the whole Bach mission – as we two Bachs from Flein call our work – maybe? Because we quickly answer, help and accompany? In the matter of Johann Sebastian Bach and everything around it? Whether kids are looking for something, or Bach scientists, Bach genealogists, Bach admirers or lovers of classical music? Well, if that is not a reason to help you directly to the perfect Bach music ... what is?!

You can ... put them together yourself: the cantatas and passions, the vocal works and the Brandenburg Concerts. But that's a bit like starting to breed bees because you have an appetite for honey now and then. In fact, a compilation of all the works is then, alternatively, the perfect solution. And to finally get them inexpensively would, of course, be top. And naturally ... there is something like that already. It is the collected works or also the Complete Edition, that is the Bach Complete Works. And what you have to pay for it, ranges from € 1,449 via € 600 and € 299.00 for practically exactly the same, as just the super-affordable offer from "Bach 4 You", here below these lines. It is not simply "only" the Complete Musical Works of Bach (... Bach Music Complete Edition). But it is the complete works of music and also eight free add-ons.The two terms "Bach complete works" and "Bach complete edition" ... are confusing: Once it is the music that you can hear, so usually on a CD collection. It is the Bach complete works (... Bach-Gesamtwerk).  But then there is also the Bach Complete Edition (... Bach Gesamtausgabe): These are the music sheets that you can "only" look at. This Bach Complete Edition, the one just mentioned, you is what you don't  ( ! ) get in 53 fancy red volumes on paper, but as PDF files. The Bach Gesamtausgabe Vs. the Bach Gesamtwerk, Which Is the Bach Music Complete Edition Vs. the Bach Music Note Sheets

Are you confused now? It gets even more complicated. First of all, to the Bach-Gesamtausgabe (... the Bach Complete Edition). That is, the collection of 16,800 pages of sheet music. First of all, it exists as the "Old Bach Gesamtausgabe". It was published between 1851 and 1899 by the book publisher "Breitkopf und Härtel" in cooperation with the Bach Society in Leipzig. For a whole 50 years? That's right, almost. One volume every year, and in 1899 it was finally done. Finished. Today, the collection is found only absolutely rarely on earth. On the one hand, it is in the public domain, on the other hand, you just can't get your hands on it. Not in the way you would prefer. To work with it, to make music according to it, to arrange music or to look at it scientifically. But if you finally "got hold of it" ... then today it is – as mentioned – in the public domain. That means, you can duplicate it, change it, sell it or even give it away.

In the meantime, the next edition, the "Neue Bach-Gesamtausgabe" (... the New Bach Complete Edition), was published since 1954. Reworked, of course, because there is always a little shrinkage. Also with Bach and his works. In the course of the decades, Bach science discovered some new works by Bach and found out for a few of them that they were not composed by Bach at all. But for normal people – with their knowledge below the level of a music professor – the change is really only homeopathic. Not worth mentioning ... you will understand why. This "New Bach Complete Edition" was created from 1954 to 2007. The last volume was published in 2016. You read correctly. The last volume of the edition 1954 to 2007 actually appeared only in 2016. That's the way it is with such editions, we had it explained to us. This is exactly what opened up the chance until 2015 to still benefit from the subscription price of the publisher Bärenreiter in Kassel, Germany. It would then have been a purchase price of only 16,000 €, instead of the current € 20,000. Check here, what's that in your currency. We think 99.5 percent of all Bach enthusiasts will be able to bear the estimated five per mille change in Bach's Complete Works with its 1,128 pieces of music.  For a saving of € 20,000. 

Since 2010 they work on the so-called "Revised New Bach Gesamtausgabe" at Bärenreiter Publishing in Kassel, Germany ... again a technical term, as this actually is the name. So far, there are only a few volumes of this edition accomplished and the costs of € 600 each volume and purchase are manageable. The "rest" of the "Revised New Bach Gesamtausgabe" will be released in the oncoming decades. With one volume per year. So, in the year 2065 this edition could be ready then. Plus or minus one or two decades, of course. That means: It's worth waiting, because then the outworn "New Bach Gesamtausgabe" will become much more favorable for sure. However, it's not copyright-free then, even for a very, very long time to come.
